The Marble Block
& The Poems It Inspired
“The Marble Block” poem connects with the reader, bringing a moment of enlightenment. It is a road map of how to deal with pain. In this poem one faces their own marble block and learns where they are on their own personal journey in the present, and where they can be in the future.
At Zen Writing, we were comforting E., just diagnosed with cancer. I was asked, “How do you deal with your illness? Have you written a poem about it?” Then, I was told emphatically, “You should write it.”
E. said, “If you write it, I’ll read it.”
To help E. in her physical and emotional fight ahead, I wrote “The Marble Block.”
In this book, along with the “The Marble Block” poem, you will find a collection of poems, writings, a drawing and a photo created by the Zen Writing group who were inspired by the viewing of the Marble Me Free film.
